What weâll cover in this workshop
In this monthly workshop we dig into the bass line for Lynyrd Skynyrdâs âGimme Back My Bulletsâ â a proper bluesârock riff thatâs all about time, tone and attitude.â
What we'll learn:
-
The main riff and song form â verse, chorus and key figures.
-
Rightâhand attack and groove for that tight, punchy feel.
-
How to handle the syncopation and pushes without rushing.
-
Simple fills and variations you can sprinkle in without overplaying.
-
I'll show you a simplified version if you are struggling with the original bass line
How this particular workshop runs
-
Session 1 â Learn the Line:
We map out the song, nail the main riff, and go section by section with clear fingering and counting. Slow playâthroughs, looped tricky bars, and time for questions. -
Session 2 â Lock It In:
Full recap, then we work on consistency, fills, and playing along at a couple of tempos. Weâll talk about how to make it sit with a drummer and how to keep it relaxed but driving.
You'll get the follow download materials:
-
PDF TAB/notes for the line.
-
Slow and fullâspeed original tracks minus bass to practise with.
-
Replay access to both sessions if you canât be there live.
No fancy tech needed â if you can join a normal Zoom call, youâre ready.

"I donât even know if itâs legal in the United States to learn Skynyrd from a Brit but Greg taught this first workshop like he was born in the South. From beginner to intermediate to pro he walked us up in levels of difficulty of play. Chord charts, tabs, backing tracks (slowed and at speed) were available. A lot of preparation went into this workshop and it showed"

"I just wanted say how much I enjoyed the recent workshop GBS did on Lynyrd Skynyrdâs Gimme Back My Bullets.
Busy southern rock line, but Greg did a great job of breaking it down and giving options that may not be the original line, but certainly something you can play along to.
The workshops are new and you can pick and choose which songs you want to work on. No long term commitment. Two hour long zoom lessons with replays if you canât make the lesson time. Love it."
The workshops will be presented by myself, and if you don't know me yet, I'm Greg Hagger, a professional bass player, educator. and creator of Greg's Bass Shed.
I concentrate on teaching bass players real life-skills, with a focus on feel and confidence, rather than speed, or flashing, busy playing.
Whether you're a bedroom player, attend jam sessions or a seasoned musician, you'll get a lot our of these sessions and have fun at the same time.
